Healthy Decisions Group

WHAT IS IT?

This program is for Shippensburg Area Middle School and High School students who are having a difficult time in the school setting.  This group meets weekly during the school day.  The group is a safe environment to learn and practice new skills as well as to share any concerns the students may have with school or their families.

WHO DO I CONTACT?

Students can gain access by their school counselors and/or teachers referring them to this program.  Both the student and the parents have to agree and give permission for the student to attend this support group.

HOW CAN I HELP?

This program is supervised by Marcy Douglass, the chair of the SCRC Mental Health Committee and a professor in the Counseling Department at Shippensburg University.  Two Shippensburg University graduate students facilitate the group under her supervision.  One student is in the Master of Counseling program and the other student is in the Master of Social Work program.  The students work on different skills such as communication and conflict resolution.  This group meets once a week, during school hours, for one hour.

Due to the nature of the program, we do not have any opportunities for volunteers.  However, if you would like more information, please email swk-scrc@ship.edu or growingedges@ship.edu
